Why Self Care is More than Bubble Baths

Ever find yourself feeling run down with no motivation to do the things you typically enjoy? You may be burnt out! But the reason you are reading this is probably because you already know that and you are looking to heal your burnout.

I’m sure you have read plenty of articles telling you to pamper yourself, take yourself to the salon, or take a bubble bath. While all those things can be really nice, they are not taking care of the source of your exhaustion and burnout. Though the spa may feel good for a little while, it will not bring long-lasting relief.

What is Self Care?

You may be thinking to yourself: “I can figure it out.” or “I can make time.” Maybe you can right now, but what happens if you have to work more hours at your 9-5, or your business grows past the point of your finite time and energy? You may already be there and thinking “I know my business needs ___ but I literally can’t right now.” If this is you, it is time to start looking into getting help. Sure, you can recruit your friends and family, but then you will probably get stuck with all the admin stuff. No one wants to only do admin stuff. Or maybe you do and you are a rare gem. Either way, it may be more worth your time and money to pay someone who already knows what they are doing to handle some of the nitty gritty tasks that aren’t as much fun.

Another way to identify if it is time to start outsourcing is if your business is stuck at a plateau. No matter what you do, the analytics stay pretty much the same. You know you could try a new social media platform, or give your website a facelift, but you don’t have the time or energy to try or you did try and it did not help. Either way, your business needs new energy and ideas to take off again.

If you are brand new to the small business/ side hustle/ entrepreneur world, then you may not be at a point that you would need to outsource work. It takes time to grow, so save your money and invest it in other areas of your business. Your business needs to be established first and only you can do that. Not ready to outsource yet? Take a class!

Why you NEED self care in your life

  • improved content quality
  • avoid burnout
  • scale your business past a plateau
  • get more done
  • increased motivation
  • enjoy what you do again
  • better work/life balance

There are so many pros to outsourcing that I don’t even know where to start! When you delegate managing social media, designing your website, researching your market, or anything else that you either aren’t great at or don’t like to do, you are able to just focus on the core of your business. This allows you to make better products or content, actually enjoy what you do again, avoid burnout, and allows you to scale your business past what you can do by yourself.

Burnout and lack of motivation are the two main killers of dreams. It is really easy to quit when you get to this point. If you quit, then you have doomed all your hard work to failure. If you are truly committed, which you have to be to be successful

Different ways to practice self care

  • cost
  • the fear that it won’t be done how it's supposed to be

I know I just spent the last couple of paragraphs telling you all the wonderful and amazing things that outsourcing can do for you, and you may be asking yourself, “What’s the catch?”

One of the biggest deterrents for people looking into outsourcing is the cost. Yes, you have to pay someone to do work for you, although the amount that you pay is totally up to you and your budget. You have full freedom to shop around to find someone that works within your budget. As a side hustler or small business owner, you don’t have a whole lot of extra money floating around. If you are considering outsourcing some of your work, you have to decide how much you can invest that will bring you an even greater return down the road.

Another common deterrent for hiring a freelancer is that small business owners are afraid that the person they hire won’t do a good job, or they won’t do things exactly like you want them done and it will be a huge waste of money. These things can happen, yes. Should that stop you from trying it out? Probably not. This is when it is incredibly important to do your research!! Does the freelancer have a portfolio? Do they have client reviews? Do they have success stories? Do they have examples of their work? If they do, then you have all the information you need to determine if that person is a good fit and will do a good job.
